Why deforestation occurs?

Deforestation occurs when forested areas are cut and cleared to make way for agriculture or grazing.

Experiment

Step 1: Create a mound of soil which acts as a mountain.

Step 2: Add toothpicks or sticks to one side of the mountain, poke the sticks down into the soil as if they are the roots of the trees.

Step 3: Once completed get a jug of water and pour it over the top.

Questions

  • Which side washed away first?
